Historic Totnes in Beautiful South Devon - Holiday Home for Sale

The Area

Historic Totnes dates back to the medieval times and still has its Norman castle. In 1206 the town was given its charter of independence by King John. Many of the buildings are Elizabethan and the parish church of St. Mary was rebuilt of red sandstone in the 15th century and rises above over 60 merchants' houses built during this period.

Picturesque, set on the banks of the river Dart, Totnes is centrally situated for many places and is mid-way between the stunning coast and Dartmoor National Park. There are many specialist shops and leisure facilities, lovely villages and places of interest within easy reach. An ideal place to own a holiday or second home and attract visitors.

Totnes is easily accessible being six miles on good roads from the A38, which extends from the M5 at Exeter; the A38 continues on to Plymouth. Totnes also has its own railway station with trains from London Paddington in 3 hours. Also services from Waterloo. Through trains also run northwards to the midlands, north of England and Scotland and connecting services take in many areas of the country.
